Summary
Alfresco is web based Enterprise Content Management system, initiated by John Newton since 2005, one of the Documentum Co-founders. Alfresco has been entered into the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Content Management category. Today Alfresco has been implemented in more than 5000 companies.
Alfresco is able to handle large-scale content management to millions of content. This training will equip participants about the concept of Enterprise Content Management, and the concept of Alfresco in particular, including the use and administration of Alfresco.

Liferay as a Main Alternative for Your Enterprise Portal

Liferay can be the main alternative for company as an enterprise portal/intranet portal solutioin. Liferay Portal is easy to use and open source licensed. So companies that want high valued Enterprise Portal solutions can divert his choice to Liferay. Liferay Portal provides the facilities, both intranet and extranet.

User Personalization , if given the right of access by adminitrator, then the user is entitled to configure the portal page by adding, deleting, or fill the position of the content. Users also can store data and later distributed to other users who are still in one network.

Content-Based Sharing , Liferay considered reliable in sharing content and messages that are sent through the facilities of the forum, so users do not need to use email only to to send messages. Liferay also provides a menu for users in making changes in content and appearance

Tool to make Custom Model in Alfresco

In one of the ECM implementation - Alfresco - we need to implement content type and document metadata that have been designed previously.

There are about 24 types of documents, and there are about 100 metadata that need to be built in Alfresco. Of the 100 about metadata, there are several properties that are shared properties. If calculated, each document type on average has 15 metadata.

If using conventional methods, we estimate it will take about 1 week to make it. Then we try to find a way or tool that can be used to shorten the construction time, and we found SIDE-Labs. Sidelabs is an IDE that can be used developers to design custom models, and even workflow in Alfresco. By using the SIDE-Labs, we will save much time on custom model development.

Finally it only take 1 day to make 24 content types and approximately 100 metadata. For comparison, a web-client-config-custom.xml have around 1700 lines of code, and customModel.xml has about 2300 codes. Imagine if developers have to do it conventionally.

So if you plan to do in-house development with Alfresco, and you have a lot of types of documents, we strongly recommend to use the SIDE-Labs as a tool.

SugarCRM Releases Sugar-6

SugarCRM has just announced the release of their latest version, Sugar 6. With the release of this version, SugarCRM tries to make the CRM system easier and more flexible for their users. In fact, many users do not understand how to operate this system. The main reason lies in the complexity and the least experience of the users themselves. This release will give priority to enhancing the user experience by offering a cleaner system, equipped with new larger buttons and symbols that allow users to more operate this system easier and obtain the required information. Basically, this release is more aimed for CRM to be more flexible and comfortable fit with the needs of users than if the user spends a lot of time to understand the complexity of UI and everything in it. They have achieved this by focusing on a menu option that is easier to use. This new release also enables Sugar users can easily access the information through such social networking site Twitter, LindkedIn and other data sources through CRM. This makes SugarCRM more social than ever before. According to Clint Oram, deputy assistant director of production and the founder of SugarCRM, the focus of Sugar 6 located on the experience of its users. Among the changes to the latest version, there is a simpler design where the menu has been moved to the top. Menus located at the top of the page including a frequently used, and specific to SugarCRM Professional and Enterprise versions are supported by AJAX, that provides the user with a drop-down menu interface. All this reduces the number of clicks or keystrokes on Sugar 6. For example, in the previous version of Sugar 5.5, which was launched last year, doing a search is a complicated process. Now, Oram said, rather than bringing users to a separate screen as a whole, the system contained in the Global Search Sugar 6 offers an overlay with the search results. With this system, users can remain on screen that they're doing, and still can do a search to see other information without having to get out of the navigation system. The performance of search systems have also been optimized by Sugar 6 so that search results can be displayed more quickly.
